Da vértigo realizar una reseña de una banda de la talla de CHEAP TRICK. Cuarenta y siete años de historia viva en el mundo del Rock y un sonido tan particular que ha influenciado a multitud de bandas de las que podríamos estar hablando durante días.
A pesar de su éxito comercial, el cual les llegó antes en Japón, paradójicamente, que en su propio país, Estados Unidos, siguen siendo considerados como una banda de culto, inclasificable si no utilizas el término Rock con generalidad, pero que ha drenado con audacia de las mieles del Power Pop al más llano Pop, de la New Wave, del Aor, del Punk y lo que les ha venido en gana. Ellos se definen en tono jocoso como una banda de “psychorock” y parte de razón no les falta.
Con una discografía bastante ejemplar y sin encorsetamientos innecesarios, con una anarquía musical dictaminada por sus propios gustos y establecida por las apetencias de sus circunstancias, CHEAP TRICK pueden presumir de hacer lo que les viene en gana y resultar creíbles e incluso consecuentes con cada era con la que han lidiado.
In Another World acaba de ser publicado este 2021 y me duele en el alma la poca repercusión que estoy observando por los medios más especializados y aclamados ante esta institución erigida sobre los míticos Robin Zander (voz y guitarra), Rick Nielsen (guitarra), Tom Petersson (bajo) y el más novedoso miembro, aunque cuente con una década bajo sus espaldas ya con la banda, el batería Daxx Nielsen.
Poca algarabía alrededor de un álbum sincero y altamente disfrutable.
De los gurús del Aor no espero más allá de copiar la nota de prensa y compartir la gran noticia, pero claro, es que aquí no hay un The Flame que glorifique el álbum para sus invariables preceptos ochenteros, ¡coño! Aquí lo que hay es mucho Rock adulto, pero sin adulterar para la comercialidad, y eso ya son palabras mayores.
Desde la primera escucha y como viene siendo habitual en ellos en el nuevo milenio, la sorpresa siempre viene dada por su enérgica disposición al guitarreo y unas voces por las que el tiempo no parece pasar. ¡Ya quisieran muchos grupos de nueva hornada y eterna devoción por el gran dinosaurio, con un tercio de la edad de nuestros protagonistas, sonar tan refrescantes, joviales y auténticos!
Y es que In Another World es una colección de temas sobrios donde con la apertura de un maravilloso juego coral marca de la casa para lo que será el adorable estribillo de la excitante The Summer Looks Good On You, asientan sus términos con puro Rock setentero de ambiente lisérgico que encuentra réplicas más o menos controladas en otros picos de intensidad como pueden ser Boys & Girls & Rock N Roll, Light Up The Fire o Here´s Looking At You.
La “Fower Power” Quit Waking Me Up, The Party con ese Groove tan Hendrix en plena alianza Disco Funk, cuentan también con grandes estribillos, así como Final Days donde se embriagan de Blues mafioso y establecen diversidad al álbum.
Por otro lado, los ambientes más íntimos de la banda, rodeados por el halo “Beatlemaniaco” inherente a su ADN, exhalan el humo alucinógeno de cada calada “Hippy” y “happy” necesario para embarcarte en un viaje anímico de complacientes sensaciones y dulces nostalgias. Preciosa por ejemplo Another World que cuenta con un reprise al final del disco en clave Punk cuya inclusión me ha provocado una sonrisa de bienestar.
Otros espacios oníricos son la desnudez Lennon de So It Goes o I´ll See You Again, desencajando nuestra mandíbula con el ácido medio tiempo de Passing Through.

«With nothing to prove and much to thank them for, CHEAP TRICK continue with their sensory experiences embodied in songs that are not otherworldly as their title says, on the contrary, they are so mundane and necessary to feel analog in a devouring digital era that many worshippers of processing will choke on such a mouthful of old-fashioned delight.»
It’s vertigo-inducing to review a band of the stature of CHEAP TRICK. Forty-seven years of living history in the world of Rock and a sound so particular that it has influenced a multitude of bands that we could be talking about for days.
Despite their commercial success, which came earlier in Japan, paradoxically, than in their own country, the United States, they are still considered a cult band, unclassifiable if you do not use the term Rock in general, but that has boldly drained the honeys of Power Pop to the flattest Pop, New Wave, Aor, Punk and whatever they wanted. They jokingly define themselves as a «psych rock» band and they are right.
With a quite exemplary discography and without unnecessary constraints, with a musical anarchy dictated by their own tastes and established by the desires of their circumstances, CHEAP TRICK can boast of doing what they want and be credible and even consistent with each era with which they have dealt.
In Another World has just been released this 2021 and it pains me in my soul the little repercussion that I am observing by the most specialized and acclaimed media before this institution erected on the mythical Robin Zander (voice and guitar), Rick Nielsen (guitar), Tom Petersson (bass) and the newest member, although he has a decade under his back already with the band, the drummer Daxx Nielsen.
Little hullabaloo around a sincere and highly enjoyable album.
From the Aor gurus I expect nothing more than to copy the press release and share the great news, but of course, there is no The Flame here to glorify the album for their unchanging eighties precepts, dammit! What we have here is a lot of adult Rock, but unadulterated for commerciality, and that’s a big word.
From the first listen and as usual in them in the new millennium, the surprise is always given by their energetic disposition to guitar playing and vocals for which time does not seem to pass. Many new batch groups and eternal devotion to the great dinosaur, with a third of the age of our protagonists, would like to sound so refreshing, jovial and authentic!
In Another World is a collection of sober songs where, with the opening of a marvelous choral game, the chorus of the exciting The Summer Looks Good On You will be the adorable chorus, they set their terms with pure seventies Rock with a lysergic atmosphere that finds more or less controlled replicas in other peaks of intensity such as Boys & Girls & Rock N Roll, Light Up The Fire or Here’s Looking At You.
The «Fower Power» Quit Waking Me Up, The Party with that Groove so Hendrix in full Disco Funk alliance, also have great choruses, as well as Final Days where they get drunk of Mafia Blues and establish diversity to the album.
On the other hand, the most intimate atmospheres of the band, surrounded by the «Beatlemaniac» halo inherent to their DNA, exhale the hallucinogenic smoke of each «Hippy» and «happy» puff necessary to embark on a soulful journey of indulgent sensations and sweet nostalgia. Precious for example Another World that has a reprise at the end of the album in Punk key whose inclusion has caused me a smile of well-being.
Other dreamlike spaces are the Lennon nudity of So It Goes or I’ll See You Again, unhinging our jaw with the acid half-time of Passing Through.
