La banda musical brasileña vuelve a la carga con la entrega de su 15º álbum titulado QuadraPara los seguidores incondicionales de este cuarteto afincado en São Paulo, les alegrará saber que su nuevo trabajo en estudio compila la trayectoria musical del grupo desde sus inicios hasta los días de hoy. Quadra nos trae la agresividad de los riffs que podemos encontrar en anteriores obras como Beneath the Remains o Arise. También baterías tribales inmortalizadas en Roots, ritmos y melodías afrobrasileñas unidos a una percusión con tintes progresivos, cuerdas y coros entrelazados con la distorsión de las guitarras de Andreas Kisser y soportados por la contundente base del bajo de Paulo Jr. Todo ello agradablemente mezclado con la potente voz de Derreck Green.
Desde luego es un álbum en el cual se percibe la completa influencia en las composiciones por parte de Andreas, donde se recrea con sonidos, melodías, escalas y estilos que domina perfectamente. Un ejemplo de esta soltura lo encontramos en el tema The Pentagram, completamente instrumental, recordando sus tiempos más clásicos, y con más de 5 minutos de duración.
Seputura abre con Isolation que nos adentra en su pasado Thrash, contando con una producción moderna y actual. Last Time y Capital Enslavement dan continuidad a la introducción más agresiva del álbum. A medida que van avanzando los temas, vemos un resumen de la trayectoria de la banda, ya que nos encontramos con temas como Raging Void, apelando casi a un sonido más Groove entremezclado con ritmos progresivos y tribales en la batería de Eloy Casagrande.
Nos sorprenden con Guardians of Earth en el que dejan claro que el Metal no está atado a solo unas cuerdas distorsionadas, sino que puede complementarse con grandiosos coros y el ensamblaje de la música culta de nuestros antepasados. En esta segunda parte del disco nos impregnamos con temas más lentos, contundentes y nutridos por estilos variopintos de la cultura musical brasileña. Autum es un claro ejemplo de ello, con tintes “Sertanejos” en el solo de Andreas mientras Eloy proporciona el ritmo de las batucadas brasileñas siempre presentes en las escuelas de Samba o en los “Botecos” de música en directo, añadiendo un estribillo que evoca los mejores tiempos de Roots Bloody Roots.
Quadra da nombre al álbum y es un homenaje al conocimiento musical más clásico de Andreas Kisser. El tema deja a uno con esperanzas de que fuera más largo, pero quizá esa ha sido la intención inicial de la banda.
Por otro lado, Derreck demuestra sus diferentes registros en Agony of Defeat donde se apoya en la grandiosidad de los coros y cuerdas orquestadas, perfectamente ensambladas con el resto de los integrantes de Sepultura. Cierran con un toque más moderno y actual titulado Fear Pain Chaos Suffering, en el cual contribuye Emily Barreto con su voz femenina.
El trabajo del cuarteto brasileño no defrauda y reafirma su presencia en los escenarios más actuales a nivel mundial. Quadra es un álbum que confirma la trayectoria de Sepultura como un grupo que no se estanca en el mainstream del Metal, y revela la extendida evolución musical que persiguen.

The Brazilian band charges once again with the delivery of their 15th album entitled Quadra. The unconditional fans of this quartet based in São Paulo, will be glad to know that Sepultura’s new studio record compiles the band’s musical trajectory from its beginnings to present day. Quadra brings us the aggressiveness of the riffs that we can find in previous records such as Beneath the Remains or Arise. Also tribal drums immortalized in Roots, rhythms and Afro-Brazilian melodies joined to a percussion with progressive hints, strings and choirs intertwined with the distortion of Andreas Kisser’s guitars and supported by the overwhelming sustenance of Paulo Jr.’s bass, all well mixed with the powerful voice of Derreck Green.
It is obviously an album in which Andreas’ complete influence on the compositions of all songs is perceived. He rejoices in sounds, melodies, scales and styles that he dominates perfectly. An example of this ease is found in The Pentagram, completely instrumental, recalling earlier times, and lasting more than 5 minutes.
Seputura opens with Isolation that takes us into its Thrash Metal past, with a modern and current production. Last Time and Capital Enslavement give continuity to the aggressive introduction of the album. As the tracks advance, we see a summary of the band’s trajectory, as we find themes such as Raging Void, appealing almost to a Groovy sound intermingled with progressive and tribal rhythms on Eloy Casagrande’s drums.
They astonish us with Guardians of Earth in which they make it clear that Metal is not tied to distorted strings only, but can be complemented by great choirs and ensembles of cult music of our ancestors. In this second part of the album we impregnate ourselves with slower and vigorous tracks nurtured by various styles of Brazilian musical culture. Autum is a clear example of this, with “Sertanejos” insinuations in Andreas’ guitar solo while Eloy provides a rhythm of Brazilian “batucadas” always present in Samba schools or in at “Botecos” of live music, adding a chorus that evokes the best times of Roots Bloody Roots.
Quadra names the album and is a tribute to the most classical musical knowledge of Andreas Kisser. The track leaves one wishing that it would be longer, but perhaps that has been the band’s initial intention.
On the other hand, Derreck demonstrates his wide vocal range in Agony of Defeat where he relies on the magnificence of the choirs and orchestral strings, perfectly assembled with the rest of the members of Sepultura. They close with a more modern and updated touch entitled Fear Pain Chaos Suffering, in which Emily Barreto contributes with her female vocals.
The work of the Brazilian quartet does not disappoint and reaffirms its presence in the most important stages worldwide. Quadra is an album that confirms Sepultura’s trajectory as a band that does not stagnate in the mainstream of Metal, and reveals the widespread musical evolution they pursue.
