ENGLISH INTERVIEW BELOW

RA.-No, no realmente diría yo.

Cuidate!

RA.-Te  lo agradezco y lo intentare!!!

ENGLISH INTERVIEW

In this life it doesn’t matter how many times you fall but you must learn to get up stronger. Perhaps this is how the life of Danish singer Ronnie Atkins is summed up. The news that he had cancer was a hard strike but after a tough battle he returned to fighting and music, releasing his solo album «One Shot». Recently, the former lead singer of Pretty Maids confessed that the damn disease had returned. But as a good warrior, he returns stronger than ever with the preview «Rising Tide» of  his new job will be. We moved to the Odin’s land to chat with him about his life, his fight, new projects and his great desire to live.

Carmen Torres -First of all, thank you for taking time for this interview. First, I’d like to ask you about your heath. How do you feel?

Ronnie Atkins.-You’re welcome !! I’m feeling good at the moment. I’m not getting any treatment anymore since I’m not allowed to get anymore immun therapy, so now it’s up to the strength of my own body and the higher powers to cope with the “ enemy “ if it eventually decides to strike back. I’ll still go to the annual scans every third month though.

CT-Has your state of health slowed down your creativity or, by the other way, are you more inspired?

RA.-Well my love for music and my ability to write songs actually helped me through my darkest hours so to speak and counting. But the threat it’s still there 24/7 like a dagger hanging above my head. I don’t think that’ll never change really. But I try to live my everyday life as good as I can and push the bad thoughts away. And music is a very big part of that and I still get inspired. In fact I think my creativity has been bigger than ever before the last two years 🙂

CT.-After your career with Pretty Maids and your collaboration  with Avantasia, now your trip is solo, how do you feel more comfortable? With bands or solo?

RA.-Well I’ve enjoyed every musical endeavor I’ve participated in in my life. Pretty Maids of course has been my main thing for almost 40 years, but every good thing comes to an end at some point I guess and if we don’t get back together again then that’s it. It’s not the end of the world to me.

These days I’m ofcourse mostly involved in my own projects and that’s been a lot of fun and still is. Avantasia has been a great adventure too, I love those guys and hope to be back on stage with them again at some point. Then I’ve been doing the Nordic Union thing with Erik Martensson, and who knows we might even do some more. So all in all I have enough to be occupied with.

CT.-Will there be a new Pretty Maids album?

RA.-There’s no plans about that at all for various reasons. The chemistry ain’t there and it ain’t the right time for even considering it. If we go back out it will be doing some concerts to begin with whatsoever. But there’s nothing on the table at the moment.

CT.-I don’t like putting labels because good music is always good music, but if you had to define the style of your new work, what would it be?

RA.-Well there’s of course some parallels to Pretty Maids, but there’s a reason for that. I’m basicly writing the way I write and I’ve been doing that for all my life !. That said my own material is probably a bit more melodic and personal than what I do with PM. You know to me a good song is a good song. I’ve always been a sucker for a good melody/ hookline whatsoever and that still how it is.

CT.-After collaborating with Avantasia and the guys from At the Movies, is there an artist that you would like to collaborate with in any way?

RA.-No can’t really think off anyone speciflly. But you never know what pops up. I’ve had quite a few requests over the last years to participate in this and that project or on peoples albums but mostly I kindly decline since I’m already involved in enough.

CT.-Scandinavia is the cradle of great bands. Is there something special in your land for such successful groups to come out?

RA.-No not really I’d say. But that said there’s been coming a lot of good artists, songwriters and producers out of Scandinavia the last 50 years really and in particularly from Sweden. But why I don’t really know !!! Maybe we just have good taste in music, ha ha.

CT.-What can we expect the fans of your new album? Any surprises that can be revealed?

RA.-Well hard to say !! I think it’s probably much along the lines of the first album really, maybe a bit heavier actually. However the focal point is the melodies and the fact that it’s overall melodic and that it is. I think fans pretty much know what to expect from me and I don’t think they’ll be disappointed with “ Make it count “ Hopefully not 🙂

CT- And finally, three wishes for this 2022.

RA.-Well first of all peace in the world !!! Right now I’m concerned what’s going on with the russians and their military build up in Europe. I don’t hope history will repeat itself. Second I hope that my cancer will stay away and never return again !!! Sometimes we must believe in miracles 🙂

And third I hope to return to the stages on some level at some point in 2022, That’s my wishes 🙂

CT-Thank you very much for your time, we hope to see you in good shape as always. Take care of yourself!

RA.-I thank you and I’ll try !!!
