ENGLISH REVIEW INCLUDED BELOW
Dos años han pasado desde que Toby Hitchcock sacara su último y fantástico trabajo “Reckoning”, y ahora, aprovechando el parón de Pride Of Lions, nos presenta nuevo álbum titulado Changes, siguiendo la estela de sus anteriores discos y contando con el omnipresente Alessandro Del Vecchio en las labores del bajo, teclados y en composiciones. Analizamos los temas más destacados y resaltamos la labor de Martin Jepsen Andersen a las guitarras, el cual nos va hacer disfrutar de muchos solos de gran calidad junto a unos ritmos y riffs de alta gama.
Empieza el disco con Forward que es toda una declaración de intenciones, muy Aor, gracias a unos sensacionales teclados plenos de melodía junto a una base sólida de batería y ese sonido de guitarra que nos va a adentrar de lleno en el disco de la mejor manera para comenzar. Un muy buen tema, cortito, pero intenso, apenas 3 minutos bien aprovechados. Sirvió como primer single para presentación y llamó intensamente la atención.
A continuación, y de forma natural, tenemos la versión del tema de Despina Vandi, Xano Sena, titulado aquí como Before I Met You, que de primeras ha sido un tema que no me atrapó, pero que gana en las siguientes escucha. Un medio tiempo sencillo con un comienzo muy tranquilo que enseguida coge su marcha y donde cabe destacar los grandes registros vocales que trabaja Toby en diferentes secciones de la misma. Guitarras sobresalientes.
Llega el turno de otro buen tema como es el que da título al disco, Changes, elaborado con una bonita melodía de guitarra que encabeza el inicio de este buen medio tiempo de puro Rock melódico, donde el de Pride Of Lions maneja perfectamente los tiempos, subidas y bajadas de voz amoldadas a las exigencias de la canción y demostrando su buen hacer.
Tonight Again es un tema a modo relax, sin ser una balada, pero que desborda emotividad a raudales y donde Toby se sale en cada uno de los tonos que registra, con la profundidad exigida en cada parte vocal. Muy llamativo solo de guitarra y donde también cabe destacar las maravillosas notas de piano que hacen que se incremente la importante carga de emotividad desprendida.
Con Garden Of Eden nos espabila y ¡de qué manera! Suena más rockero, con un ritmo muy vivo y un estribillo que engancha muy bien a la primera escucha. De nuevo el tramo solista de guitarra es tremendo. Ya hacía falta un tema así de movido a estas alturas del disco.
Seguimos con Say No More, una canción que en su primera parte va a tirones, subidas y bajadas de intensidad, con una primera parte pausada y con cierto halo de suspense hasta que rompe con un sensacional estribillo. Aviso: registros estratosféricos de Toby, guitarra descomunal con tremendos riffs y una poderosa batería empujando con fuerza al momento más enérgico.
Run Away Again (From Love) es otro maravilloso medio tiempo donde la intensidad recae en los hombros de Toby, doblando sus voces, otorgando una contagiosa electricidad en un sencillo y directo estribillo que proporciona un monumental subidón de adrenalina.
Atención porque llega, posiblemente y para mi gusto, el mejor tema del disco: Two Hearts On The Run. Nada más empezar, los teclados ambientales y la armonía de esa gran guitarra, nos empiezan a seducir hasta llegar al fantástico y super pegadizo estribillo, de esos adictivos que cuando acaba el disco es de lo primero que te viene a la mente y se resiste a abandonarla. Para coronación un solo de guitarra de ensueño, quizás, inclusive, el mejor de todo el disco.
Estamos casi finalizando y nos alcanza otro tema cargado de fuerza, directo al oyente, su nombre es On The Edge Of Falling que goza de una rítmica muy viva y con un estribillo sin complicaciones, perfectamente degustable. Notable trabajo de teclas y punteos de guitarra los que envuelven y redondean a esta canción.
Losing You termina con el disco y nuevamente se recarga el sentimiento de melancolía con ciertos aires dramáticos. Me atrae, pero desploma notablemente las emociones por lo que me suscita mis dudas sobre la colocación de esta pista y su importancia a la hora de cerrar este disco.
Toby Hitchcock está a un nivel impresionante en cuanto a su faceta vocal, si a eso le añadimos enormes posiciones de escritura que contienen la esencia del puro Rock melódico y del Aor que necesitamos en estos días inciertos, además de disfrutar del sorprendente trabajo de guitarra a cargo de, repito, Martin Jepsen Andersen, el gran acierto de este trabajo, tenemos ante nosotros una más que aceptable y degustable colección de canciones a la que debo reconocer su mérito pero que, siendo sincero, no supera su anterior «Reckoning», con el que puso el listón demasiado alto. Dicho lo cual, me veo capacitado a recomendar sin pudores este Changes porque aún así, es de alabar el nivel artístico que mantiene.

Two years have passed since Toby Hitchcock released his last and fantastic work «Reckoning», and now, taking advantage of the hiatus of Pride Of Lions, he presents us a new album titled Changes, following the trail of his previous albums and counting with the omnipresent Alessandro Del Vecchio on bass, keyboards and compositions. We analyze the most outstanding themes and we emphasize the work of Martin Jepsen Andersen on guitars, which will make us enjoy many solos of great quality along with rhythms and riffs of high range.
The album begins with Forward which is a declaration of intentions, very Aor, thanks to some sensational keyboards full of melody with a solid base of drums and that guitar sound that will take us fully into the album in the best way to start. A very good theme, short, but intense, just 3 minutes well used. It served as the first single for presentation and attracted a lot of attention.
Next, and naturally, we have Before I Met You, which at first has been a theme that did not catch me, but that wins in the following listens. A simple half-time with a very quiet beginning that soon picks up its pace and where it is worth mentioning the great vocal registers that Toby works in different sections of it. Outstanding guitars.
It comes the turn of another good theme as is the one that gives title to the album, Changes, elaborated with a nice guitar melody that leads the beginning of this good half time of pure melodic Rock, where the Pride Of Lions manages perfectly the times, rises and falls of voice molded to the demands of the song and demonstrating his good work.
Tonight Again is a relaxing song, without being a ballad, but overflowing with emotion and where Toby comes out in each of the tones he records, with the depth required in each vocal part. Very striking guitar solo and where it is also worth mentioning the wonderful piano notes that increase the important load of detached emotionality.
With Garden Of Eden he wakes us up and in what a way! It sounds more rock, with a very lively rhythm and a chorus that hooks very well at the first listen. Again the guitar solo section is tremendous. We needed a song like this at this point of the album.
We continue with Say No More, a song that in its first part goes in jerks, ups and downs of intensity, with a paused first part and with certain halo of suspense until it breaks with a sensational chorus. Notice: Toby’s stratospheric registers, huge guitar with tremendous riffs and a powerful drummer pushing hard at the most energetic moment.
Run Away Again (From Love) is another wonderful half-time where the intensity falls on Toby’s shoulders, doubling his vocals, giving an infectious electricity in a simple and direct chorus that provides a monumental adrenaline rush.
Attention because here comes, possibly and for my taste, the best track of the album: Two Hearts On The Run. At the very beginning, the ambient keyboards and the harmony of that great guitar, begin to seduce us until we reach the fantastic and super catchy chorus, one of those addictive ones that when the album ends is the first thing that comes to mind and resists to leave it. To crown it all, a dreamy guitar solo, maybe even the best of the whole album.
We are almost finishing and we get another theme full of strength, direct to the listener, its name is On The Edge Of Falling that enjoys a very lively rhythmic and with a chorus without complications, perfectly degustable. Remarkable work of keys and guitar plucks that surround and round off this song.
Losing You ends the album and once again the melancholy feeling is recharged with certain dramatic airs. It appeals to me, but it brings down the emotions noticeably so it raises my doubts about the placement of this track and its importance in closing this album.
Toby Hitchcock is at an impressive level in terms of his vocal facet, if we add to that huge writing positions that contain the essence of pure melodic Rock and Aor that we need in these uncertain days, besides enjoying the amazing guitar work by, I repeat, Martin Jepsen Andersen, the great success of this work, we have before us a more than acceptable and degustable collection of songs to which I must recognize its merit but that, being honest, does not exceed his previous «Reckoning», with which he set the bar too high. Having said that, I am able to shamelessly recommend this Changes because even so, it is to praise the artistic level that it maintains.
