DINO JELUSIC (ANIMAL DRIVE) – Entrevista / Interview (English v. included)

Back To The Roots y por qué elegisteis las demás?

IRON MAIDEN/SCORPIONS

DINO J.Siempre MAIDEN

JORN LANDE/RUSSELL ALLEN

THE BEATLES/THE ROLLING STONES

DINO J.- BEATLES

POWER METAL/AOR

METALLICA/GUNS AND ROSES

DINO J.- GUNS

SUSHI/PIZZA

DINO J.- Sushi

BOOK/FILM

EUROVISION/THE VOICE

DINO J.- Ninguno. Daría algo de ventaja a THE VOICE, no sé el porqué.

1987/SLIP OF THE TONGUE

DINO J.- Slip Of The Tongue!!!

SKID ROW/SLAVE TO THE GRIND

DINO J.- Slave To The Grind!!!

LADY GAGA/MADONNA

DINO J.- LADY GAGA.

TOURING/RECORDING AT STUDIO

ENGLISH INTERVIEW

ANIMAL DRIVE was one of the biggest surprise emerging in the Hard Rock Scene in 2018.

Bite!  Sounded fresh, powerful yet melodic and put in the map a band with an undoubtely chance to become one of the possible leaders of the future of  Metal music. But they weren´t new in this bussiness, Dino Jelusic, a force of nature, had already a name even when he was just a kid, Rock Angels has the chance to make some questions to the band because of the live show they´ll be performing at Zurbarán´s Fest in Burgos, Spain, and we are not going to miss the chance as usual… Enjoy!!!

LUX.- I´m glad to be talking to you! I had the chance to review Bite! before its release and the album really impressed me to the point that it became one of my ten best recordings of that year.

Could you please tell our readers the band´s history from the early days to present?

DINO JELUSIC .- Hey man! Thank you very much, I appreciate it. The band was my solo band until we signed for Frontiers. I wanted it to be a band, not my solo thing, ‘cause I as a solo artist have a lot of things in my mind musically, I wanted a heavy part of myself to be in a band. I love team work with great people.

LUX.- A second album is awaited by many fans, but in the meanwhile you have released an E.P. covering some classics that suits perfectly in your style, even a  powerful Roxette´s cover, one of my musical guilty pleasure´s.

Which are your influences?

DINO .- We’re about to enter the studio this summer and do our 2nd record. I already did another album with George Lynch this year and honestly that album si SO good I’ll have to work harder for AD 2nd record to top that one, chemistry was at the top level. Its coming out in late January 2020.

I have a lot of influences. The obvious ones are Whitesnake, Dio, Dream Theater, Pantera, Alice In Chains, Winger… But there’s a lot outside that heavy genre. Elton John, Toto, Yes, Chris Stapleton, Jeff Beck, Aretha Franklin, Billy Joel, Chicago, Eagles…

LUX.- I have told you one of my guilty pleasures, can you tell me yours?

DINO .- I love some Katty Perry and Jessie J stuff. But I dont feel any guilt haha.

LUX.- Dino made an amazing cover of Ray Guillen´s Badlands, The Last Time, another of my favourite songs of all time, Why did you not include it in Back to the Roots and why did you chose the others?

DINO.- I don’t know. It was a Frontiers / Animal Drive kinda agreement about the songs. We had Queensryche and Dream Theater in our minds, but since we dont have a permanent keyboardist, I didnt wanna go that far,  it’s absolutely ridicolously hard to sing Dream Theater and play keyboards at the same time.

LUX.-  Have you ever heard about Burgos? Will this be the first time you visit Spain? Do you know anything about our traditions?

DINO .- Yes I have and I love the size of the stage. We have some kickass show for you guys. Stoked to be a part of it.

LUX.- What are Spanish fans going to find in an ANIMAL DRIVE´s show?

DINO .- A lot of things goin’ on. From my keyboard solos to some cool moves by Keller & Rokindja, very diverse show as far as songs, a lot of ups and downs. You’ll see.

LUX.- Croatia is not well known, at least not for the rest of Europe, by it´s Rock Scene, Are there any insteresting bands you´d like to share with us?

DINO.- Kryn is a great metal band we have here, check them out. Cold Snap too, they tour around the Europe all the time. Also check out Side Effects.

LUX.- What do you think about the European music scene? Is it easy for a band of your skills to tour intensivily?

DINO .- It’s almost impossible. If you’re not well known you wont have a lot of people in the audience. It’s a constant struggle but if that’s what you wanna do, you gotta do it. I enjoy every single show.

LUX.- Are there any current bands you like?

DINO.- Whoa, you have to define ‘’current’’ a little bit more, I love A LOT of music these days.

LUX.-  Frontiers Music is one of the biggest labels for fans of Melodic yet hard edged Hard rock, are you happy with your relationship?

DINO.Yes we are. Can’t wait to see what will happen after the 2nd album. I know they have some big plans for me in another band, you’ll find that out soon too.

LUX.- If you only could choose one… and why?

JOURNEY/FOREIGNER

I like them both… That’s a tough one. I’d go with Journey, even though they’re pretty even to me.

IRON MAIDEN/SCORPIONS

Maiden all the way.

JORN LANDE/RUSSELL ALLEN

That’s unfair haha. Russell is a frend of mine and one of my biggest influences along with Jorn, who I know personally so Im gonna skip this one haha. Love them both.

THE BEATLES/THE ROLLING STONES

Beatles.

POWER METAL/AOR

Ah… Not a fan of Power Metal… So I’ll go with AOR, altough it really depens on the band and songwriting.

METALLICA/GUNS AND ROSES

Guns.

SUSHI/PIZZA

Sushi.

BOOK/FILM

I dont read alot nowdays, but the book is always better.

EUROVISION/THE VOICE

Neither. I’d give ‘’The Voice’’ some advantage, I dont know why.

1987/SLIP OF THE TONGUE

Slip of the tongue!

SKID ROW/SLAVE TO THE GRIND

Slave to the grind!

LADY GAGA/MADONNA

Lady Gaga. Just because she’s a lot more tan some electric pop star. ‘’A star is born’’ is the proof, great soundtrack.

TOURING/RECORDING AT STUDIO

Depends. Some songs I dont like to do live, but I love the studio versions of it. But touring deff!

DIO/OZZY

Dio absolutely, but there’s something about Ozzy I cant explain. He sounds perfect, I love his solo career, I believe every word he says. But Dio had bigger influence on me.

LUX.-  My best regards for the band, i´m looking foward to listen to you alive!!!!

DINO .- Thanks for your time
